Personal development, a balanced lifestyle, self-confidence and healthy choices are the goals for Court Grammar School's extensive and ever-growing sporting program. House competition is fierce all year round between 'Whitby' and 'Yarrabah' as students fight it out to win the annual "Challenge Cup" presented at the conclusion of each year.
House carnival days include swimming, athletics, cross country, cricket and AFL.
Cross Country
The CGS Cross Country carnival is held on the final day of term 1, with an Inter-house competition between the two Houses, Whitby and Yarrabah. The school grounds are set on approximately 15 acres, giving us the opportunity to set out two comprehensive courses, one 3km course designed for Years 7-12 and the other 2.4km course designed for the Primary students.
Swimming
The annual Whitby vs Yarrabah swimming carnival is held at the commencement of Term 1 for students in Year 7-12. Competitive swimming at CGS is continuing to grow in popularity amongst the student population, with CGS entering a competitive team into the major interschool event held by the ACC. Selected interschool swimmers also have the opportunity to train on Tuesday mornings throughout Term 1, in the lead up to the ACC Interschool Swimming Carnival.
In 2025, we will be opening our very own Aquatic & Recreation Centre. The centre will house a 25m swimming pool which will be used for in-term swimming lessons as well as training sessions for various sports, as well as a gym and recreation facilities.
Athletics
CGS has been involved in athletics for the entirety of the school’s existence. Term 2 Physical Education lessons and after school sporting co-curricular sessions are dedicated to teaching the students the finer details to the varying techniques of all athletic disciplines. Students prepare for the school athletics carnival, where the two Houses, Whitby and Yarrabah, compete to win the annual House athletics challenge. From this carnival, students are selected to compete for CGS at the ACC athletics carnival, which is held at the State Athletics Centre each year. CGS usually sends approximately 80 students to this event, allowing a broad range of students to fill all events on the card. Students from Year 3-12 are encouraged to participate in the afterschool co-curricular training for athletics throughout Term 3.
Marron Cup (cricket)
Since the School’s inception, we’ve celebrated the annual Marron Cup event. The Inaugural event was held in 2007 with the objective to begin a tradition to celebrate the new school year. The Marron Cup trophy itself represents the community spirit that was involved during the establishment of Court Grammar School, the first Secondary School within the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale.
The trophy itself is awarded to the winning House, either Whitby or Yarrabah, which gathers the most points throughout the day by participating in a range of activities, with the feature event being the afterschool cricket match.
Court Cup (AFL)
Amongst a strong footballing community within the shire and coupled with the school running a highly esteemed Specialist AFL Program, it is common-sense to have a school carnival day dedicated to an AFL match named in honour of the Court family. Students are selected by the Head of AFL Academy in the First XVIII of Whitby or Yarrabah, to fight it out in a game of Aussie Rules in the presence of the entire school. Students work hard to try get selected for their respective Houses' First XVIII side and it is a highlight of many students final schooling years if they are successfully presented with a House guernsey at the annual Court Grammar Day assembly.
