Food science is part of the Design Technologies: Food Specialisations area. Students learn how to prepare a variety of dishes, from simple to complex, and learn how to adapt recipes to meet specific dietary needs. The course also emphasises safe food handling practices and a variety of culinary techniques to produce safe, quality food products. Students also learn about the energy content of foods, cultural influences on food, the importance of sustainable food production, and project-based assignments.
